EU post-presidents agree on seizing proceeds from Russian assets

“Agreed on measures concerning extraordinary proceeds from immobilised Russian assets. The funds will be used to support Ukraine, its reconstruction and military defence,” RIA Novosti reported, citing the representation of the Belgian presidency of the EU Council.

In December, the European Commission approved a mechanism for “immobilisation of revenues” from frozen Russian assets. The initiative allows Ukraine to use in its interests taxes on income from Russian assets frozen in the West.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that the Russian side did not rule out a mirror response in case its assets were confiscated.
