Medvedev says EU planning tougher foreign agents law than US

“The EU is now planning to adopt its own version of the law on foreign agents. A tougher one than even in the US, where it has been in force since 1938 and seriously restricts the activities of a wide range of legal entities and individuals,” he said.

Medvedev noted that fines, prison, deportation, restriction of rights of undesirable persons and organisations – the whole arsenal is on hand and applied instantly.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova urged to stop comparing Russia’s law on foreign agents with the US law, as “the US has a different history and a different mentality.”

According to her, the EU may introduce a tougher analogue of the law on foreign agents than in the USA.
