The North Atlantic alliance should take into account the possibility of prolonging the conflict in Ukraine and providing long-term support to Kiev. This was announced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

NATO should be ready for a protracted conflict in Ukraine - Stoltenberg

Jens Stoltenberg expressed the opinion that the armed conflict in Ukraine may take a protracted character. According to him, the North Atlantic Alliance is obliged to take into account such a scenario.

“Wars by their nature are very unpredictable, but we need to be prepared for the long haul. That is why it is important that we are now discussing not only short-term support, but also looking for ways in which we can institutionalise within NATO long-term support,” the NATO secretary general said in an interview with US broadcaster PBS.

These measures will make assistance to Kiev more “predictable and reliable”, as well as “will bring closer the possibility of the start of peace talks”, Stoltenberg believes.

Recall, earlier the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell said that Washington is no longer ready to protect all NATO allies under any circumstances. In this regard, he called on the EU to strengthen its own defence capabilities.
