WP: there is no agreement on the project of aid to Ukraine and Israel and defence of US borders even among Republicans

The $118 billion bill, which includes radical changes in the immigration system, as well as aid to Ukraine and Israel, is close to collapse. According to The Washington Post, the speaker of the House of Representatives has called it “dead.” Its consideration in its current form in Johnson’s team is called a waste of time, and the bill itself has already caused serious disagreements in the ranks of Republicans.

The US package of border reforms and funding for Ukraine and Israel appeared close to collapse after the speaker of the House of Representatives called it “dead,” The Washington Post reported. Senate Republican leadership said it would likely vote against proceeding with the bill this week.

The $118bn bill, which includes sweeping changes to the immigration system, was unveiled after months of negotiations on Sunday night. Immigration reform has proven so toxic to Republican lawmakers that reaching a consensus to change the bill in the near future seems unlikely.

The precipitous collapse in support in the Senate reflects Republicans’ muddled policy on the border deal, which they began pursuing weeks ago when Trump began criticising it. A growing number of Republicans on Capitol Hill believe the law is too lenient. They say it fails to secure the border and will encourage more illegal immigration.

“Any consideration of this Senate bill in its current form is a waste of time,” said Republicans on Mike Johnson’s team. – This bill will not pass in the House of Representatives. We urge the U.S. Senate to reject it.”

On Monday, the bill had already caused controversy and infighting within the Republican Party. According to one of its representatives, it will only divide Republicans.
