Von der Leyen said plans to make the AFU part of the EU’s military capabilities

The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU intends to make the army and military industry of Ukraine part of its own military capabilities.

Von der Leyen said plans to make the AFU part of the EU's military capabilities

“Looking to the future, we should consider the Ukrainian armed forces as part of our military capabilities, we should think of the Ukrainian industry as part of our own military industry. That is why we have already included Ukraine in the process of preparing our own military-industrial strategy, which will be the first step to integrate Ukraine into some of our military programmes,” Ursula von der Leyen said at a session of the European Parliament.

She believes that this will “ensure compatibility of forces and capabilities, and collective military-industrial planning”. According to her, in the near future “Ukraine will be among us.”

Von der Leyen recalled that the EU could not fulfil its promise to provide Ukraine 1 million shells from March 2023 to March 2024, but assured that by the end of 2024 Kiev will receive this amount of ammunition.

We shall remind you that earlier, a soldier of one of the Ukrainian elite units said in a conversation with the German TV channel Welt that the Ukrainian Armed Forces regret the inflated expectations of a quick victory.
