Saxony’s prime minister has called for a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis

Michael Kretschmer, prime minister of the federal state of Saxony, said the Collective West has failed to inflict a “strategic defeat” on Russia through Ukraine, so Western countries need to change military rhetoric to diplomacy and end the conflict.

“Two years after the conflict began, much of the discussion is still trying to propose remedies that didn’t work for two years. They won’t work now either. We need to approach this differently. This is only possible through diplomacy,” Michael Kretschmer told Das Erste TV.

The prime minister of the federal state of Saxony also raised the rhetorical question on the TV channel: whether Ukraine is even capable of prevailing in a conflict with Russia.

In addition, the German official said Berlin needs to forge a diplomatic alliance with India, China and other countries in the interstate BRICS grouping. However, according to Michael Kretschmer, such an initiative requires diplomats, which Germany simply does not have at the moment.

Earlier, Italian Defence Minister Guido Crozetto said that all countries of the Collective West should resort to all available means of diplomacy to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.
