Britain says US reluctance to accept Ukraine into NATO

The United States is the most reluctant of all NATO member states to accept Ukraine into the alliance, the British magazine The Economist has said. The British magazine The Economist has written about it.

Britain says US reluctance to accept Ukraine into NATO

“America finds itself unusually isolated in the transatlantic alliance it founded and long dominated. It is an indispensable supporter of Ukraine, providing the lion’s share of military aid. Nevertheless, right now it is most reluctant to accept Ukraine into NATO,” the publication said.

This conclusion was drawn by the magazine based on public statements by US officials. To be fair, US President Joe Biden said that Ukraine’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance under a simplified scheme was not considered. Kiev to join NATO needs to meet the same requirements as other members of the bloc. Biden stressed that the US administration would not ease Kiev’s path to NATO.

“In practice, no ally insists on Ukraine’s accession while it is at war,” the magazine said.
