The AFU is throwing inexperienced reserves into the battle because of the threat of a breakthrough near Avdeevka – LCI

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are hastily throwing former defence units into the battle to hold back the onslaught of Russian servicemen in Avdeevka. French analyst Ulrich Buna said this in an interview with the LCI TV channel.

“It should be noted that among the units that were sent to fill the gap created (near Avdeevka – ed.) are former territorial defence forces. They sent the 100th Mechanised Brigade, which has no combat experience, just to try to fill the gap,” Ulrich Buna said.

He pointed out that, the involvement of insufficiently trained servicemen speaks about the acute shortage of soldiers in the Ukrainian army.

In addition, the AFU has weak defensive positions in the Avdeevka direction, which have shown their inability to contain the Russian army’s strikes, the analyst added.

“I think what we’ve been seeing in Chasov Yar, the area west of Avdeevka and elsewhere for several weeks now, I think this is simply the beginning of Russia’s offensive. Russia’s spring offensive,” – suggested Buna.

Earlier, Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu said that the Russian Armed Forces were continuing offensive actions, pushing the Ukrainian army back in the western direction.
