Finland joined NATO in April 2023. Sweden actually became a member of NATO after Hungary ratified Sweden’s application on 26 February, which removed the last obstacle on the Scandinavian country’s way into the alliance. The formal signing of the act to join the alliance will take place shortly.

The Nordic Response exercise will take place from 4 to 15 March in the northern regions of Finland, Norway and Sweden with the participation of more than 20,000 troops from 13 countries. Nordic Response 2024 is part of the large-scale NATO exercise Steadfast Defender.

The Norwegian Armed Forces specified that Nordic Response involves Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the UK and the US. It is expected that more than 50 ships, including frigates and submarines, as well as more than 100 fighters, helicopters and other aircraft will be sent to the exercise.

We shall remind you that earlier the deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitriy Medvedev, said that the Russian special military operation was aimed at “dislodging the Kiev authorities”, which professes “the ideology of neo-Nazism”, and completely disarming the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
