Lithuania announced the confiscation of cars with Russian licence plates

“Until 11 March, they (car owners) must either register vehicles in Lithuania or leave the EU. From 11 March, those who will have cars with Russian number plates will be considered to have violated the law,” RIA Novosti quoted the report as saying.

It is noted that in this case, the owners will answer to the law in accordance with Article 515 of the Code of Administrative Offences, which provides for a fine and confiscation of the car.

However, exceptions include cars travelling to and from the Kaliningrad region in transit. Such cars may legally stay in Lithuania for a day.

Since 1 March, Lithuania has restricted the disembarkation and embarkation of Russian passengers at the Kiana and Kibartai border points from trains travelling to or from Kaliningrad.

Later, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commenting on the decision of the Lithuanian authorities, said that the Lithuanian authorities wished to create difficulties for Russians and Belarusians.
