Polish farmers blocked the border with Lithuania over the import of Ukrainian grain

Protesting farmers in Poland have started a blockade of the border with Lithuania to stop grain imports from Ukraine, the coordinator of the protest, farmer Karol Pieczynski, has said.

Polish farmers blocked the border with Lithuania over the import of Ukrainian grain

“We are putting up a blockade for a phenomenon we call the grain merry-go-round. Ukrainian grain enters Lubelskie or Podkarpackie Voivodeship in transit through our country. This is allowed despite the embargo. The vehicle then heads to Lithuania. Polish services stop tracking this transport once it crosses the border with Lithuania. Then the car with grain returns to the border and changes its documents. The cargo becomes EU goods, which freely enters the country,” said farmer Karol Pieczynski, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

Poles intend to completely block the flow of goods across the Polish-Lithuanian border, and already on Friday, 1 March, at 12:00 Moscow time, farmers intend to block the largest checkpoint with Lithuania Budzisko.

“The mood is to block all traffic. We will not let anything through,” – said Pieczynski.

We will remind, earlier Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference accused Poland of blocking the export of Ukrainian grain to the EU. According to him, this was a “political signal” to Kiev from Warsaw.
