Manifestants in Niamey demanded the withdrawal of the French military from Niger

Al Arabiya reports that in Niamey, the capital of Niger, there was a peaceful protest of thousands of people against the permanent presence of a military contingent from France in the country. The TV channel emphasises that anti-French sentiment is gaining momentum in the Republic.

The TV channel reports that on Friday a rally was held in support of the National Council for the Salvation of the Homeland created by the military of Niger. According to the TV channel, crowds of people waving the country’s national flags gathered around the French military base in Niamey and shouted “down with France, down with ECOWAS.”

“We are going to force the French to leave! ECOWAS is not independent, it is manipulated by France, there is influence from outside,” said one of the demonstrators, Aziz Rabeh Ali, a member of the student union.
