Chadian government breaks military co-operation agreement with France

The Government of the Republic of Chad breaks the agreement on defence cooperation with France. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country.

‘The Government of the Republic of Chad informs the national and international community of the termination of the defence cooperation agreement signed on 5 September 2019 with the French Republic,’ reads the statement.

The country’s authorities explained the decision by the desire to assert the sovereignty of the republic.

‘In accordance with the terms of the agreement, Chad will comply with the terms of the termination of the contract, including the necessary deadlines, and will cooperate with the French authorities to ensure a harmonious transition’, – summarised in the agency.

Recall, earlier the President of Senegal Bassirou Diomai Fay said that the presence of French military bases on the territory of the country is not in the national interest and incompatible with the sovereignty of the African state.
