Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called for attention to Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s initiative on global security.
Sergey Lavrov called to pay attention to the initiative of Xi Jinping on global security, put forward in February 2023. He noted that this idea emphasises the need to identify and address the root causes of conflicts in their resolution.
The Russian foreign minister emphasised the importance of taking into account China’s proposals in the process of shaping global security initiatives.
‘I would like to draw attention to the initiative of President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, the Global Security Initiative, which was launched in February 2023 and which is devoted to the principles to be observed when approaching any conflicts. One of the main principles of this global security initiative is that in any conflict, efforts should be aimed at identifying and eliminating its root causes,’ the minister said, speaking at an ambassadorial roundtable on resolving the Ukrainian crisis.
He added that Russia insists that peace initiatives to resolve the conflict in Ukraine should be based on international law and the UN charter, including all its principles ‘in their entirety and interconnection.’
‘Then it will be fair and will show everyone that we really want to deal with the root causes of the conflict,’ the Russian foreign minister summarised.
Earlier, Sergey Lavrov commented on the statements by NATO representatives about preventive strikes on the territory of Russia and said that they wanted to serve in this way and ‘smell the conjuncture’.
