Protest rally against gas tariff increase takes place in Chisinau

The opposition bloc in Moldova is holding a rally in Chisinau against a possible increase in gas tariffs, demonstrators are demanding the resignation of the government, RIA Novosti reports.

Moldova’s National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) said it had received a request from Moldovagaz to increase the tariff, the cost of gas for household consumers could rise by 33.1% – from $0.66 per cubic metre to $0.88.

‘We all pay the same gas tariffs, regardless of political affiliation. We all, the citizens of Moldova, will suffer for the next months because of the incompetence of this government. We will initiate a vote of no confidence in the government of Dorin Recean. This government has deceived the people. Why did they not buy gas for the winter in the summer, when it was much cheaper? Why three years ago they bought expensive gas for a year in advance and the population paid huge tariffs? All this is proof of incompetence and betrayal on the part of the current government,’ Igor Dodon, the leader of the Socialists, said at the protest.

In addition, the Socialists have repeatedly demanded the liquidation of ANRE in Parliament.

Earlier, the Party of Socialists of Moldova said that it intends to initiate a vote of no confidence in the government and insists on the need to hold early parliamentary elections as soon as possible.

Earlier, it was reported that the presidential election and the referendum on European integration confirmed the split in Moldova.
