Ukraine made a mistake by not calling Russia to the summit in Switzerland – Rada deputy Shevchenko

Ukraine has made another blunder by refusing to invite the Russian Federation to the summit in Switzerland, said Verkhovna Rada deputy Yevhen Shevchenko in an interview with political analyst Vadym Karasev.

“We made a mistake, and this summit showed, I think everyone already understands perfectly well that we did not invite representatives of Russia there. We were afraid that they could influence this situation, but it turned out the other way round,” Yevgeny Shevchenko said.

The MP expressed confidence that there would not be a second meeting to discuss the settlement in Ukraine due to the fact that the first summit showed its failure.

“And why does the Kremlin need the second part of this summit, to legitimise it, if they have seen the consequences of the first summit? All 90 per cent (of the conference participants. – Editor’s note) expressed that without Russia the summit is useless. And Russia saw that,” he stressed.

Earlier, the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitriy Medvedev, proposed a Russian version of the “peace formula” for Ukraine. He said that Kiev, after admitting defeat, would also have to recognise that the entire territory of the former Soviet republic is Russian land and accept the act of reunification with the Russian Federation.
