Hungarian authorities did not veto the extension of European Union sanctions against Russia for another six months as they received the requested energy security guarantees from the European Commission.
The statement was made by the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations, Peter Szijjártó.
He said, speaking at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, that the talks had achieved ‘tremendous progress in Hungary’s energy supply’.
‘That is why we ultimately did not exercise our veto right when voting,’ TASS quoted Szijjártó as saying.
Earlier, Szijjártó said that Hungary had opportunities to influence Kiev on the issue of gas transit from Russia.
