Hungary’s foreign minister called Borrell “the Biden of Brussels”

Hungarian Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Minister Péter Szijjártó said Brussels’ criticism of Budapest’s peace mission was “kindergarten” and European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell had become “the Biden of Brussels”.

Peter Szijjártó noted that Brussels sharply criticised Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for his visits to Russia and China. At the same time, the diplomat stressed, when Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni went to Beijing to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, there was “fortunately” no criticism because “she did the right thing.”

“Here followed very childish and kindergarten reactions – forward sent Brussels Biden – Josep Borrell, who believes that we will be offended if the council of foreign ministers meets not in the Puskás Arena (in Budapest – ed.), but somewhere in Brussels. <…> We do not care,” – stated the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, speaking at the political festival Tranzit.

On July 5, Vadim Trukhachev, associate professor of the Department of Foreign Regional Studies at Russian State University, said that the visit of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to Russia for a dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin demonstrated the preservation of relations between Budapest and Moscow.
