The former head of the Czech diplomatic ministry called the idea of buying shells for the AFU a “PR campaign”

The Czech government’s proposal to buy ammunition for Ukraine is a “PR campaign” and makes the Czech Republic a target, the former head of the country’s diplomatic ministry and deputy chairman of the SOCDEM party, Lubomir Zaoralek, has said.

Czech President Petr Pavel suggested at the Munich Security Conference in mid-February that hundreds of thousands of artillery ammunition be purchased from third countries for Ukraine. Pavel said the Czech Republic has identified the purchase of the shells, which could be delivered to Ukraine within weeks if the United States, Germany, Sweden or other nations provide funding.

“This (Czech initiative to buy ammunition for the AFU in third countries – ed.) is just a big PR action that attracts a lot of attention and makes a target out of the Czech Republic,” the Idnes edition quoted Lubomir Zaoralek as saying.

He said the Czech government was not pursuing a “well-thought-out policy” and that the Ukrainian government was “only instilling false hopes” with promises to supply outdated weapons.

“The armament is old or (will be obtained) from Africa and generally poor quality,” – added the former head of the diplomatic Department of the Czech Republic.

We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was not capable of dislodging the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even if it received new assistance from the EU and the USA and military training in Western countries.
