NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has called on alliance members to give weapons to the Kiev authorities, even if it is at the expense of their own countries’ security.
He said this at a press conference following the meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council.
“I made it clear that if this is the only way they will help to supply Ukraine with the weapons it needs, then this is a risk that must be taken,” TASS quoted him as saying.
He noted that in this case national decisions should be taken, i.e. decisions of the governments of the alliance countries.
Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal said that Kiev would receive military aid from the United States within a few weeks after the bill was approved in Congress.
