Slovakia will maintain a ban on imports of 14 food items from Ukraine

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has said that Bratislava will leave in force the trade embargo on imports of 14 items of Ukrainian agricultural products.

According to Robert Fico, Slovakia guarantees corridors for the export of Ukrainian agricultural products through the territory of Slovakia to countries that need agricultural products from Ukraine. The Slovak prime minister also stressed that he and his Ukrainian counterpart had come to an understanding: efforts would be needed to find a mutually beneficial solution to the issue of agricultural products from the former Soviet republic.

“On the other hand, I explained to Mr Prime Minister in a friendly manner how important it is for us to protect the interests of Slovak agrarians,” Robert Fico said after a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, as quoted by the Pravda newspaper.

Earlier, the chairman of the Federation Council’s commission for information policy and media relations, Aleksey Pushkov, said that France and Poland were ardent supporters of Ukraine against Russia, but as soon as it comes to Ukrainian agricultural products, Warsaw and Paris forget about their “favourite ally”.
