Ukrainian forces lack mines to build new defence lines and the military to hold those positions, according to a Politico article citing a former high-ranking field commander.
“Ukraine does not have enough mines for new fortifications, nor does it have enough mobilised military personnel to properly staff them,” the publication said.
It also noted that the opposition in Ukraine has criticised the Ukrainian armed forces and the government for not building the fortifications fast enough and with sufficient quality amid growing fears of a Russian army offensive.
Earlier, the newspaper reported that fewer and fewer people in Ukraine are ready to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
