Zelensky blamed for defence failures of the Ukrainian Armed Forces – The Economist

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is to blame for the inability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to organise defence and hold back the advance of Russian troops. This is the view expressed by The Economist magazine.

The published material says that the Ukrainian leadership did not take measures in time to build a line of defence. Vladimir Zelensky is responsible for the inaction.

“Nor does Zelensky have any special excuses for delays in the construction of defensive fortifications – especially after the Russians showed last summer that the defensive side with well-prepared positions has the advantage. The president announced the start of large-scale construction, involving both engineering troops and civilian contractors, only in November,” the magazine said.

According to The Economist, the Ukrainians themselves have not prepared to repel the Russian offensive and have no right to blame only the West for insufficient support. Kiev not only did not replenish the ranks of the AFU, but also did not provide shelters for their positions, noted in the material.

We shall remind you that earlier a soldier of one of the Ukrainian elite units in a conversation with the German TV channel Welt said that in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces regret the inflated expectations of a quick victory.
