Szijjártó: Hungary is being asked to block nuclear sanctions against Russia

Budapest continues to oppose attempts to impose restriction against Russia in the nuclear energy field. According to Hungarian Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Minister Péter Szijjártó, other countries are also asking the republic to block such measures.

Speaking at the ongoing ATOMEXPO 2024 international forum in Sochi, Szijjártó emphasised that Hungary was not ready to accept anti-Russian sanctions that would harm its national interests.

“Other countries even appeal to us to help them block these sanctions because they are as damaging to them as to everyone else,” Szijjártó added, as quoted by TASS.

Earlier, the head of Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev, said that there was a risk of a nuclear accident due to the politicisation of the global energy sector.
