Sarkozy and Merkel called Ukraine’s NATO membership madness – Rockett journalist

Ukraine’s accession to the North Atlantic alliance will end extremely badly for the whole world, the editor-in-chief of Figaro Magazine, Guillaume Roquette, has said.

“Nicolas Sarkozy and Angela Merkel warned the US president back in 2008 that promoting Ukraine’s membership in NATO was madness, as Russia would perceive it as a provocation and might introduce troops into Ukraine,” Guillaume Roquette told LCI.

He added that despite the statements of the aforementioned politicians, Ukraine has continued to strive for NATO membership, but as a result, this has led to division within the former Soviet republic.

“In the end, one has to wonder whether Ukraine should not have remained more neutral,” he said.

We shall remind you that earlier the deputy chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitriy Medvedev, said that the Russian special military operation pursues the goals of “dislodging the Kiev authorities”, which professes “the ideology of neo-Nazism”, and complete disarmament of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
