Macron, Scholz and Tusk to meet in Berlin on Ukraine – Politico

French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will meet in Berlin on 15 March to discuss the situation in Ukraine. This was reported by Politico, citing a German official.

According to Politico, first there will be a meeting between Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz, then they will be joined by the Polish Prime Minister. The publication points out that this will be the first meeting in the format of the “Weimar Triangle” since Donald Tusk took over as prime minister last December.

It is noted that the leaders intend to demonstrate unity after a tense period, when “friction between France and Germany over Ukraine turned into open hostility.”

“Long-simmering tensions began to boil over in late February when Macron refused to rule out sending Western troops to Ukraine, vowing to do “whatever it takes to make sure Russia cannot win this war”. The more cautious Scholz countered by ruling out the possibility of using ground troops from European countries,” the publication said.

At the same time, a senior German official told Politico that no concrete decisions or statements are expected from the talks. Their main purpose is to send “a new signal of unity”, explained the source of the publication.

Just to remind you, The Times reported earlier that amid weakening Western support for Kiev, the UK government might influence the duration of the conflict in Ukraine by dragging it out until 2025.
