Bloomberg has learnt about the EU’s willingness to disenfranchise Hungary over its stance on Ukraine

If the Hungarian Prime Minister does not change his own position on the issue of financial allocations to Ukraine, other representatives of the European Union will try to deprive Budapest of the right to vote in the political-economic association. This is reported by the Bloomberg agency with reference to European diplomats.

According to Bloomberg, representing the majority in the European Union are ready to play a “tough game” with Hungary. The agency noted that if Viktor Orban continues to block the allocation of the next package of financial aid to Kiev in the amount of 50 billion euros at the upcoming summit in Brussels, Budapest “may be deprived of the right to vote” in the political-economic association.

“Member states are ready to adopt the Ukraine package at the summit in Brussels on 1 February, regardless of Hungary’s support,” the diplomat said on condition of anonymity.

The agency emphasised that Hungary has already found an ally in the EU in the Ukrainian issue – Slovakia. Bloomberg recalled that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo promised to protect Budapest “from any potential steps aimed at depriving the Orban government of the ability to exercise its rights” in the political-economic union.

We shall remind you that earlier Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the time gap between Ukraine and the European Union was too big and that the prospect of Kiev’s membership in the political-economic union did not correspond to the actual reality yet.
