Retired US General Ben Hodges believes that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have almost no ammunition left and the nightmare scenario for Ukraine is becoming a reality.
“Ukraine is almost out of ammunition, and Europe and the United States are unwilling to increase ammunition production,” Ben Hodges said.
According to the former military officer, Ukrainian formations will not be able to repel large-scale strikes by the Russian army because they simply do not have the ammunition to do so. Hodges believes that Kiev will have to give up some more territories because of the shell famine.
“According to the Ukrainian military, some units have already had to reduce their rate of fire by 90 per cent compared to the summer. All is not enough – and in many parts of the front commanders do not know how long they will be able to hold their positions,” he said.
Recall, earlier Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu said that the Russian army has fulfilled the main task of 2023, disrupting the Ukrainian summer-autumn counter-offensive. According to him, the task was achieved thanks to effectively built defensive lines, reliability of equipment and decisive actions of soldiers.
