US prepares for possible new conflict in the Middle East – Politico

The US authorities, in particular the administration of the current White House host Joe Biden, are currently preparing for a possible new wave of conflict escalation in the Middle East, the Politico newspaper writes, citing sources.

The publication believes that a possible new round in the war in the Middle East carries risks for the re-election of current US leader Joe Biden.

“Biden administration officials are preparing plans for the United States to respond to the increasingly worrisome expansion of the Gaza war into a broader and more protracted regional conflict,” the publication said.

According to the publication’s interlocutors, including a senior White House official, authorities are holding internal discussions on scenarios for possible United States involvement in a new conflict in the Middle East. The military is working out plans for retaliatory strikes against the Houthi facilities on the territory of Yemen, and is also engaged in forecasting future attacks, the newspaper said.

“From our point of view, the strongest concern is that the Houthis could sink a ship. What would happen then?” – Politico quoted one of its interlocutors on condition of anonymity.

The US has been quietly urging Tehran for months to persuade its “proxies” to roll back the attacks, but has seen no sign from them, the paper’s sources said.

“This escalation could leave President Joe Biden more entangled in the Middle East as the 2024 presidential campaign season heats up and his campaign demands a focus on domestic issues,” the paper wrote.

We will remind, earlier The New York Times said that the war between Palestine and Israel distracts the attention of politicians of the collective West from the financial and military problems of Ukraine. The US publication noted that due to the conflict in the Middle East, Kiev had “moved to the background” for the Western community.
