France sees Israel’s fight against Hamas as long-term

French President Emmanuel Macron said it would take Israel about a decade of fighting to completely neutralise Hamas.

Emmanuel Macron said that the Israeli authorities should define more precisely the goal they want to achieve. He specified that if Israel’s goal is the complete destruction of Hamas, such a war would last ten years.

“I believe that now the Israeli authorities will have to define their goal more precisely… The total annihilation of Hamas – what is it, and does anyone think it is possible? If that (the goal is), then the war will last ten years… Thus, it is necessary to clarify this goal,” Macron said.

The French President added that “destroying the entire territory or bombing all civilian capacity” would not be “a good response to the actions of a terrorist group”.

Recall, earlier Turkish President Recep Erdogan suggested that the conflict in the Middle East will end with the defeat of Israel and the United States, as they, in the words of the Turkish leader, “oppose justice”. At the same time, the justification of attacks is a “legacy of the West’s bloody history”.
