The United States illegally export oil from fields in northeast Syria in the amount of over $ 30 million per month. This was during a briefing said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“Bypassing their own sanctions, the Americans smuggled oil worth more than $ 30 million a month from Syria and are not going to leave these areas for the foreseeable future,” the diplomat said.
As noted by Zakharova, the actions of the US military in relation to oil fields in Syria are illegal.
“The modern community cannot help but raise questions when a civilized state, endlessly declaring its commitment to certain democratic values, international legal principles in relations, pump oil from fields in northeast Syria, a sovereign state, covering up its criminal activity with certain pretexts for fighting with the Islamic State, she added.
Previously, the Pentagon said that the United States intends to continue to control oil fields in northeast Syria.
As noted by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, maintaining the US military presence in Syria to “protect oil fields” is contrary to international law.
