If the Ukrainian commanders do not stop in time and continue the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Ukrainian army will face defeat.
This opinion was expressed by columnist David French in an article for The New York Times.
In his opinion, the Ukrainian command intends to push the offensive and push the soldiers to the breaking point for a long time, believing that a real breakthrough is just around the corner.
“Think back to the German spring offensive in 1918, near the end of World War I. The German army dealt the Allies blow after blow, made limited gains, but in the process emaciated itself, leaving it vulnerable,” the publication said.
French also did not rule out that the defeat of the AFU could come because of weakening support from the West.
“This means that Russia’s victory over Ukraine will also mean victory over the United States,” the author summarised.
Earlier in Le Monde noted that the failure of the counter-offensive of the AFU worsens the political position of Vladimir Zelensky.
The New York Times also said that Kiev was taking a serious risk by slowing down the AFU counter-offensive.
