Asia Times: Zelensky needs to stop the fighting and stabilise the front after the failure of the AFU counter-offensive.
After the Ukrainian army failed counter-offensive, they will need to try to stabilise the front as soon as possible, as well as stop the intense fighting. Journalist Stephen Brien for the Asia Times said.
“The overall situation in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions shows that Ukraine will not be able to achieve its stated goals. Meanwhile, the Ukrainians have lost many armoured vehicles and suffered heavy casualties. Many of Ukraine’s best units have been destroyed,” the publication says.
The author of the material believes that the only solution for Kiev will be an attempt to stabilise the front in order to buy time for further mobilisation of new forces, as well as to train and rearm its troops.
In addition, the author believes Washington continues to take big risks, starting with decisions to supply cluster munitions and now depleted uranium anti-tank shells.
“Using U.S. intelligence resources to attack Russia is also a risk that could lead to more conflict in Europe. If the escalation by Washington continues, it is difficult to predict what will happen in the coming weeks,” the piece summarised.
