Colonel Douglas McGregor, a former advisor to the Pentagon chief, said in an interview with journalist Tucker Carlson that the Ukrainian army is melting as a result of its counter-offensive.
“I think we’re going to see this army, which we’ve spent so much money on, eventually melt away,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
As McGregor noted in a conversation with a journalist, Ukrainian servicemen surrender to Russian troops because of the large number of wounded and because they know they can count on decent treatment from the Russian side in captivity.
He also stressed that the surrendered Ukrainian servicemen realise that they might be exchanged for Russian prisoners in the future.
The former adviser to the Pentagon chief added that the North Atlantic Alliance would not be able to compete with the Russian side if it intervenes in the Ukrainian conflict.
Earlier, military expert Roger Hausen expressed doubts about the success of the Ukrainian counter-offensive due to high losses among the AFU soldiers.
