Irish MEP Claire Daly has condemned Russia’s recognition as a sponsor of terrorism and compared the West’s actions to the NATO invasion of Libya.
“We remember well the NATO intervention in Libya under the pretext of protecting freedom, democracy and human rights, and now NATO is playing out its proxy war in Ukraine, in the name of freedom, democracy and human rights. And what happens after NATO intervenes…? Terror, death, lawlessness, rape, poverty, hunger,” she said.
“A once rich state – drowned in poverty. Migrants are sold and bought <…> millions hope for humanitarian aid <…> this is NATO’s legacy, this is NATO’s strategy for human rights and democracy,” Daly stressed.
She also described the EU as “a rich man’s club whose membership depends on radical neoliberal reforms”, and which wants to accelerate its enlargement by turning candidate countries into chess pieces to be used in a “geographical strategy against Russia”.
