Three boats of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) approached two US warships, in connection with which one of them fired warning shots.
“The boats quickly approached the Navy patrol ship Firebolt and the US Coast Guard patrol ship Baranoff with unknown intentions. US ships have been conducting maritime security operations in international waters”, – the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet spokesman said on Twitter.
Also in the Fifth Fleet, the United States emphasized that before firing shots, they several times called on the Iranian boats to stop maneuvers over the loudspeaker, but the IRGC ships retreated to a safe distance only after firing.
The Wall Street Journal previously reported that on April 2, three fast combat boats and an IRGC support vessel surrounded the US Coast Guard ships and escorted them for three hours. Then the American ships also fired warning shots.
