The United States and EU countries plan to create an international contingent for Gaza – The Guardian

The European Union and the United States will submit to the UN Security Council a resolution on the formation of an international contingent for the Gaza Strip. This was reported in the British newspaper The Guardian.

According to the newspaper, the United States and European countries will put to the vote of the UN Security Council a resolution on the formation of an international contingent for Gaza, which will clearly define its powers. Washington insists that the corps have a UN mandate.

However, the American authorities are against the military personnel stationed in Gaza acting within the framework of a formal UN peacekeeping contingent. The publication noted that the United States is interested in ensuring that the troops in the enclave have the same status as the international forces in Haiti, which are fighting organized criminal groups.

The Guardian wrote that Egypt has not yet agreed to a similar format for the deployment of military personnel. The newspaper noted that the troops of European countries will not be involved in ensuring the security of Gaza.

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel would continue to fight the Palestinian Hamas movement until it was eliminated.
