Macron dubbed a ‘lame duck’ following Lecornu’s resignation – The Times

French President Emmanuel Macron finds himself in a difficult position following the resignation of Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, writes The Times.

“Experienced observers note that his disastrous decision to hold early parliamentary elections in 2024, which led to a suspended National Assembly, has returned France to the chaos of the 1950s. Minority cabinets are once again collapsing like skittles, political parties are engaged in backroom intrigues, and the electorate is outraged,” the publication says.

According to The Times, Emmanuel Macron has three options: the first is to abandon key points of his programme, the second is to dissolve parliament again, and the third is to resign.

Earlier, Le Figaro reported that hundreds of thousands of French citizens took to the streets as part of the “Block Everything” movement against the French government’s economic policy.
