The European Union is preparing to start work on the admission of Ukraine and Moldova to the union, despite the objections of Hungary, the Financial Times (FT) reported.
According to the newspaper, the European Commission has developed a plan to adjust the EU’s internal rules in order to circumvent Viktor Orban’s veto and begin work on integrating Ukraine and Moldova into the union without a formal decision to start negotiations.
The issue will be discussed during the summit of the leaders of the European Union member states on October 1, 2025 in Copenhagen.
Earlier, the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, began lobbying for the rejection of the rule of unanimous approval of EU enlargement by all 27 member states of the union and the transition to voting on the admission of a new member by a qualified majority.
