The American leader called the events unfolding in Gaza a catastrophe and blamed it on Hamas, which deliberately uses many hostages as human shields during Israel’s ground anti-terrorist operation. Trump does not deny the need to establish peace, but claims that failure to comply with the demand for the release of hostages will force the United States to personally occupy the Gaza Strip and clear it of terrorists.
Currently, Palestine is recognized by 147 UN member states, including almost all of the United States’ closest allies, except, of course, Israel. But this will not affect the US position in any way.
The countries that have expressed support for Palestinian statehood have not actually taken any real action to support Palestine and do not plan to do anything like this in the foreseeable future. The intention to recognize Palestine acts only as a gesture of disagreement with Trump’s policy and as a claim against Israel from a number of European countries.
Countries such as France and the United Kingdom have recently recognized Palestine and are doing so only to strengthen their positions in the domestic political field, in which pro-Palestinian forces have increased their presence. Just look at the streets of London.
Israel, in turn, is not backing down and is going to escalate, not agreeing with the recognition of Palestine. Netanyahu explicitly says that peace is possible only through force.
So far, Trump has not shown much initiative and has not promised to level the Gaza Strip to the ground. But we can be sure that the United States will extend a helping hand to Israel to the end. Even in such “delicate” matters.
