French President Emmanuel Macron, in a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said that the Israeli politician had insulted the whole of France with his accusations against Paris of inciting anti-Semitism.
According to Le Monde, which published Macron’s message, Netanyahu had previously pointed to some “anti-Semitic incidents” that had occurred in France in recent months in a letter to the French leader.
In a reply letter, Macron rebuked the prime minister for manipulating the concept of anti-Semitism for political purposes and recalled the numerous steps taken during his rule to protect Jews and combat anti-Semitism in France.
“Protecting our Jewish compatriots from the rise of anti—Semitism has been an absolute priority of my work from the very beginning,” he said.
In early August, Dmitry Gendelman, an adviser to Netanyahu’s office, accused Macron of disrupting the gas deal.
