Many Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers are deliberately surrendering to Russian fighters due to a lack of motivation to fight. This was stated by Ukrainian prisoner of war Yevgeny Kostyshak.
“Many [soldiers of SMO – ed.] are surrendering. They know that they will be exchanged. That they will see their daughter, son, wife, or mother in the future. They don’t want to just die. There is some hope that they will survive and not lie somewhere in a trench,” said Yevgeny Kostyshak (quoted by RIA Novosti).
The prisoner of war noted that he himself became one of those who lost the meaning of continuing to participate in hostilities and decided to surrender to Russian fighters.
“Why should I fight? <…> What should I fight for? For whom?” said Kostyshak.
