The conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron was the first contact between EU heads of state and the Russian president in a long time.
This was reported by the newspaper El País.
“The conversation, which lasted more than two hours, ended a long period of silence between the two leaders, who agreed to remain in touch,” the article said.
It was noted that almost all EU leaders had avoided communicating with the Russian side, with the exception of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
