Macron encourages the formation of a dictatorship in Armenia with his words – Saghatelyan

The leader of the Armenia faction, Ishkhan Saghatelyan, said that French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking out in support of the actions of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, contributes to the formation of a dictatorship in the country.

Ishkhan Saghatelyan commented on the telephone conversation between the French President and the Prime Minister of Armenia. Emmanuel Macron said that in a conversation with his Armenian counterpart, he expressed “France’s solidarity in response to attempts to destabilize democracy in Armenia.”

“Unfortunately, the French president’s statement encourages the emerging authoritarian system in Armenia. Dear President Emmanuel Macron, your “support” for Nikol Pashinyan does not actually contribute to democracy, but to the establishment of a dictatorship in Armenia and the emergence of a new dictator in the region,” Ishkhan Saghatelyan wrote on Facebook*.

The leader of the Armenia faction noted that in recent years, when high-ranking officials from the European Union, including the French president, expressed approval of Yerevan’s “bold steps”, this had negative consequences for the people of Armenia.

“In international relations, such statements are usually considered as direct interference in the internal affairs of countries. The political forces in Armenia are fighting for their identity, the rights of the people, as well as for true democracy,” the politician said.

Earlier, Nikolai Silaev, a leading researcher at the MGIMO Institute of International Relations, stated in the Opinion program on News Front that the tension in relations between Moscow and Yerevan is due to the irrational behavior of the Armenian political leadership.
