Hungary has vetoed negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union

Hungary vetoed the adoption of the final resolution of the European Union summit on Ukraine, the main point of which was a paragraph on facilitating negotiations on the country’s accession to the EU. This was reported by the press service of the European Council.

“The draft final statement was firmly supported by 26 [out of 27 – ed.] EU countries,” the statement said.

The European Council’s press service noted that the European Union will return to discussing the Ukrainian issue at its next meeting in October this year.

Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that 95% of Hungarian citizens who participated in the national referendum opposed Ukraine’s membership in the European Union.
