Macron explained the need to increase NATO defense spending

French President Emmanuel Macron believes that European NATO countries should increase spending on rearmament, allegedly due to the fact that there is a “threat” at the borders of the alliance.

“We are all rearming because this threat is present at our borders. We want [the conflict – ed. In Ukraine, the main concern of the Europeans remained. It justifies long—term rearmament, because the threat will persist,” Emmanuel Macron said at a meeting with reporters.

The French president believes that Europe should increase its contribution to defense and take “more responsibility for its own security.”

Earlier, the leader of the French Patriots party, Florian Philippot, said that Emmanuel Macron, with statements in support of Israel and Ukraine, wants to enforce the article of the constitution giving the head of state unlimited powers.
