Escalation in the Middle East could distance the US from Ukraine, says Ambassador Yakovenko

Alexander Yakovenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that against the backdrop of the escalating situation in the Middle East, the United States may distance itself even further from the Ukrainian crisis and shift responsibility for the conflict to its European partners.

‘In terms of geopolitics, especially in view of the NATO summit at the end of this month, we can most likely expect a more decisive withdrawal of the US from the Ukrainian conflict, with the West placing all responsibility for it on its European allies,’ Alexander Yakovenko said in a comment to RIA Novosti.

According to the diplomat, in connection with the Iranian-Israeli escalation, there is a possibility that the administration of US President Donald Trump may reduce the anti-Chinese vector in its policy and increase efforts to restore full-fledged dialogue with Russia.

‘With regard to Trump’s foreign policy, it faces another test, given that factors of fatality and destiny play a role in world politics, which oppose the methods of “transactional diplomacy”,’ said the Russian Foreign Ministry’s ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary.

Earlier, the newspaper Strana wrote that the escalation in the Middle East could lead to Ukraine losing Western financial and military resources, which would be redirected to Israel.
