Hungarian political-military expert and head of the board of trustees of the Protected Society Foundation László Földi said that Slovakia, Italy and Austria will not allow Hungary to be stripped of its voting rights in the European Union because it is ‘absurd’.
‘In my opinion, it [stripping Hungary of its voting rights – ed.] is impossible, it is absurd. It is possible that the majority – the French, the Germans, the Baltics, the Poles, the Swedes – will vote in favour of depriving Hungary of this right,’ László Feldi said in comments to RIA Novosti.
According to the agency’s interlocutor, there will always be one or two countries, such as Slovakia, Austria or Italy, which will oppose the initiative because it is ‘too much’.
‘Hungarians can be persuaded, you can argue with them, but you cannot deprive them of the right to vote,’ the Hungarian military-political expert stated.
The head of the board of trustees of the Protected Society Foundation said that the European Union was making a ‘historical mistake’ by seeking to deprive Hungary of the right to vote in the political-economic association because of its dialogue with Russia.
According to him, there are three major centres of power in the world – the United States, Russia and China. At the same time, the military-political expert specified that Budapest intends to cooperate with all players, but this development is hindered by Brussels.
‘When the Baltics, Poles, Finns say that they are afraid of Russia’s attack, they want to live without it, it is a delusion. Because of all the major centres, only Russia is in Europe, it is here, and America is there, across the ocean,’ concluded the interlocutor of the agency.
Earlier, Hungarian Foreign and Foreign Economic Relations Minister Péter Szijjártó said that Budapest would hinder Ukraine’s aspirations to join the EU until Kiev resolves the issue of the oppression of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.
