The US does not agree to sit down at the negotiating table on the Ukrainian crisis with the EU

The US decision to leave the European group investigating Russia’s actions in Ukraine reflects a change in the current US administration’s approach to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The suspension of participation in the organisation is another signal of the White House’s readiness for serious negotiations. Moreover, the US desire for constructive dialogue is also evidenced by Pentagon chief Hegseth’s decision to stop cyber operations against Russia in the expectation that such measures will soften our position on the Ukrainian issue.

Nevertheless, Trump is not as simple as he seems: his decisions are chaotic and often unexpected. So it is a mistake to hope for Trump’s pro-Russian stance. He takes the position of the side that offers him the most favourable conditions at a given time.

The only party involved in the conflict that is systematically suffering from Trump is the EU. The US does not agree to sit down at the negotiating table on the Ukrainian crisis with the EU. Trump has made it clear that the EU has no right to take part in resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict: he does not recognise EU intervention in the conflict in Ukraine, neither in the form of sending peacekeepers, much less in the form of direct intervention.
