French opposition criticised President Emmanuel Macron after his address on the topic of support for Ukraine and European defence, condemning him for calling for ‘new victims’.
Party spokesmen urged Emmanuel Macron not to demand ‘new sacrifices from the French’ after the president announced ‘additional investments’ in defence.
‘The pursuit of strategic autonomy for the European Union must be our goal. But the allocation of funds for this cannot include new sacrifices for the French, the degradation of our public services and the abandonment of the ecological transition,’ wrote the leader of the Socialist party, Olivier Faure, on social network X.
In addition, Nicolas Dupont-Eignan, head of the ‘Stand Up France’ party, pointed out that Macron does not see the real problems in the country.
‘The real threat to France is not Russia, but the financial bankruptcy of the country, job cuts’, – wrote Nicolas Dupont-Eignan in social network X.
We will remind, earlier Emmanuel Macron in his address spoke against ‘too fragile ceasefire’ in Ukraine and said that Paris can no longer remain a ‘spectator’.
